Visiting Student Electives Update for Clinical Chairs

April 7, 2020

Dear Clinical Chairs,

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve, the MD Program University of Toronto has decided to further extend its elective cancellations.

All confirmed visiting electives occurring between June 29th and September 20th will now be cancelled. In addition, any pending applications received for placement during this time period will also be cancelled. Official cancellation notifications will be sent to applicants and sites through the AFMC portal and a full refund will be provided. We kindly request clinical sites to cancel any elective placements that have been held or waitlisted for visiting elective students without a confirmed AFMC application as we will need to prioritize the placement of our MD program students when clinical activities resume.

For University of Toronto MD Program students, electives occurring before September 20th , including third year electives, will be cancelled. Exceptions will be made for students in the MD Extension program and those in special schedules who will be able to return to their electives when MD program students return to clinical activities.

Both the University of Toronto electives registration portal and the AFMC visiting electives portal have been temporarily closed until there is further clarity on the return date and schedule of MD program clerks.

We regret the inconvenience this has caused, but have made this difficult decision with the safety of students, the capacity of our sites and the well-being of our patients in mind.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Regards,

Patricia Houston
