Understanding Obesity as a Global Disease and Its Impact on Health

Fatima Cody Stanford, a doctor at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, will be speaking at the 2019 F.M Hill Lecture, on Understanding Obesity as a Global Disease and Its Impact on Health. Dr. Stanford has spoken out about experiencing racial profiling as a Black doctor in a recent New York Times Article and participated in panels about about gender and bias in medicine.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the presentation, participants should be able to:

  • summarize the epidemiology and prevalence, pathophysiology, and genetic component of overweight and obesity in the adult population
  • relate chronic disease risk factors in the adult population to the presence of overweight and obesity
  • recognize the persistence of chronic disease risk factors and weight bias present in childhood and adolescence into adulthood
