ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been the social media viral theme of the summer. It has raised both awareness and research funds for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The premise is simple: you dump a bucket of ice-cold water over your head and post the video evidence with a challenge to three other people or groups. Those challenged either do likewise or donate $100 in support of ALS research. Earlier this summer Professor Janice Robertson of the Tanz Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases took the challenge with colleagues at Sunnybrook. But recently, medical students at the University of Toronto were challenge by colleagues at the University of Ottawa. Not only did our students accept the challenge, they took it to a whole new level.
