Department of Medicine Celebrates the Impact of Its Faculty and Legacy of the Eaton Chair

The Department of Medicine is home to an exceptional cadre of medical educators, researchers and world-renowned thought leaders. Each year, when the Department of Medicine gathers at Annual Day to celebrate the achievements of its faculty members, alumni and trainees, this becomes abundantly clear.

Advancing Creativity

On July 1, we will celebrate the 152nd anniversary of Canadian confederation, but also mark the promotion of 134 faculty members. These individuals are being recognized for their contributions to teaching, research and their profession. Through these activities, they have established themselves as national (in the case of associate professors) and international (in the case of full professors) experts in their fields.

Providing Inclusive Care to the Trans Community

Thea Weisdorf and Sue Hranilovic specialize in providing primary care to non-binary and transgender individuals as part of the health team at the Health Centre at 410, part of St. Michael’s Hospital. Weisdorf is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Family and Community Medicine and has been working as a staff physician at the Health Centre at 410 since 1996. Hranilovic – a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner – has called it her clinical base since 1994. Over the course of their careers, Weisdorf and Hranilovic have seen trans care change significantly. They spoke to writer Julia Soudat about their practice, the need for more inclusive care and the hurdles still facing trans and non-binary communities.

Occupational Therapy Alumna Gives Back, Supporting Research in Workplace Mental Health

For Emily Geldsaler Grant (Dip OT ’47), using her occupational therapy training from the University of Toronto to help soldiers returning from World War II to adjust to life was a privilege she recalls to this day.
