MRS: Information on Final Exams

March 18, 2020

Dear First & Second Year MRS Students,

As you are all aware COVID-19 is rapidly evolving. Your faculty have been and continue to work extremely hard to maintain the continuity of your semester, as well as ensuring that the learning outcomes of the courses/program are attained.

At this time, we want to share the decisions that have been made around your didactic final exams:

  • There will be no extension to the semester
  • The published final exam schedule will be maintained
  • The final exams will be moved online
  • Each course lead will provide details of the final exams related to their course
  • For those courses that have practical assessments we will need to ensure that the learning outcomes are assessed appropriately. This will require changing the format of the assessment that was stated in the course outlines. As per University policy, "After the methods of evaluation have been made known, the Course Professor may not change them, or the timing of essays, exams, tests, etc. or their relative weight without the consent of a simple majority of students attending the class, provided the vote is announced no later than in the previous class." Each course lead will identify, when necessary, where there needs to be consent from the class on the change of format to any particular assessment.
  • Course leads are also aware of the need to provide accommodations for students registered with Accessibility Services. Students registered with Accessibility Services should continue to contact Accessibility Services to receive accommodations and supports.
  • Course leads recognize that this situation is stressful for you and that you no longer have regular access to in-person academic supports and advising. If you have questions about your course, please contact your course lead directly.

MRS Program Leadership appreciate your flexibility and patience as we all work through these very challenging times. We are all committed to your success in the Program.

The environment is changing rapidly around us, we all need to stay positive, work collaboratively, to continue to move forward.

You are encouraged to continue to practice social distancing, wash your hands often and limit unnecessary gatherings - please stay safe!

Continue to monitor your emails and Blackboard regularly as more information becomes available.

Please connect with Catherine, Kieng or myself if you have any questions or concerns.
