UTGSU's Race and Ethnicity Caucus Presents: Safe Space for Race and the Pandemic

The event will be an open discussion on the impact of COVID-19 on racialized communities, facilitated by executive members of the Race and Ethnicity Caucus. We are excited to create a safe (virtual) space for students and community members to share their race-related experiences within the pandemic.

2020 was a reality-shifting year because of the COVID-19 pandemic and a wider recognition of social issues amongst the general populace, including anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism. There is a direct correlation between an individual's racial identity and their likelihood of contracting COVID-19, making this an essential topic for members of our community to discuss.  Questions we hope to discuss include: how has COVID-19 affected you, your family and/or community? Have you experienced a difference in care as a racialized individual when it comes to COVID-19? What do you think are the gaps in how the federal and provincial governments have responded to COVID-19? What are the socio-economic repercussions of the pandemic on racialized communities?

We look forward to having these conversations and hope you will join us to share your experiences, understand the problems facing our communities, and learn from each other!
