Simulation Workshop: An Introduction to Simulation, Small Group and Video-Assisted Debriefing

This highly interactive workshop is ideal for educators who have no previous experience with simulation, but are interested in developing an understanding of simulation and debriefing skills. Participants will work through a case study to develop their own simulation by examining a mock competency profile and leveraging relevant simulation modalities. In addition, we will employ video and role-play to allow participants to practice integrating video into their personal style of debriefing. Finally, we will facilitate a group discussion on potential novel uses of simulation and video-assisted simulation.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

Identify the underlying theoretical framework of designing and debriefing in simulation
Assess the contextual factors that influence the design, execution, and evaluation of simulations
Demonstrate the ability to design and debrief short simulations
Demonstrate the ability to apply structured debriefing using video-based case studies.
